LCD-Displays

Suomeksi

FSBUS allows to use 5-number 7-segment display units. But because 7-segment modules are quite expensive i ended to use 4x20 sized HD44780 type LCD-display modules. These can be attached directly to PC's parallel (LPT) port. And because software is programmed by me. I could attach two of those displays to same parallel port. In final version there will be three of them. But this needs little bit electronics.

LCD-program gets data from Flight Simulator thru FSUIPC. User can modify output freely and select what he needs. Also update interval is changeable.

Program is still on beta stage and it can be ask for test use from me. Also schematics for connecting display units to PC is coming.

Prototype

LCD-Proto First version of LCD-software running 2x16 sized display. I already had one 2x16 sized display, so it was logic choise to use for start. Photo shows what data were printed to screen and it worked amazing well. Also it came out that this display is way too small.

Prototype, version two

LCD-Proto Next step was to get bigger display unit, so i got 4x20 sized display. 4 rows and 20 letters per row. In this first test i run bigger screen with same software version as with smaller display. In next phase there was major software upgrade. At first step i made support for two displays. Also user can select what data or text is written to display and where. Also how often display data is updated. Third display support is coming.

Software upgrade

LCD-Proto Software testing with two displays. These displays are connected to same parallel port and without destroying any features of HD44780 module. Like writing own letters to display memory. Schematics how two displays are connected to same parallel port is coming. Same affects for three display scematics too, just when i get prototype done.

Final versions

LCD-Final Attached photo shows how finland connectors are made. To display itself, there is two polarized connectors. One for main power and data line. Another, smaller one, is for back lightning. In small Vero-board is two trimmers for contrast and back light brightness.
